COMMIT-TO-BELIEVE? What Matters Most?
Discovering what matters most and then committing to believe in it—100%, are the all important first steps to realizing your life’s remarkable journey.
What do you think when you hear these three little thought provoking words: COMMIT-TO-BELIEVE? Is it: “believe in what?” It was for me. You can believe in anything you want to… Right? I could always “believe” in something that made me feel good or allowed me to dream about what possibilities that may lie just outside my front door. But my dreams always seemed to fall short and I couldn’t understand why – until I made the dedicated and unwavering commitment to believe in the process of writing what I thought would be my first book – 100%. That’s when the light came on and it hit me like a ton of bricks.
It’s one thing to believe; it’s quite another to commit…
When I put these three new magic words together, COMMIT-TO-BELIEVE, the wonders of this great and bountiful Universe were coming alive with a new perceived reality for me. Writing my first book has changed my life all because I made the decision to COMMIT-TO-BELIEVE – 100%! When you COMMIT-TO-BELIEVE, in your dream or your passion and apply the conviction in faith necessary to achieve your inspired vision, you’ll also come to realize “balance” in your life.
When someone says to you: “What Matters Most?” What do you consider? Where does your mind go? Do you reflect on recent or past events that may have brought you very fond recollections? Did you feel those old genuine warm feelings again? Did they spawn some emotional release in you and create a positive feeling that may have affected your attitude? It did for me. It was an investment in heart that I made so many years ago with my band of brothers on a shared field of dreams – our battlefield – when we’d huddle together on the Astroturf of Husky Stadium in Seattle. These memories and strong bonds of legacy friendships, with their profound positive experiences brought about the feeling of what matters most to me – love for a brother. Always there… Always having each other’s back in the heat of the battle. It’s like life as we continue to “fight the good fight.” We stand by one another to weather the storms in life. So to me, “What Matters Most” – is LOVE first – those sincerely deep and genuine molecules of heart-felt emotions that bonds one’s spirit to anothers.
“In the most amazing journey any football player can ever take, Kevin was one of my Brothers. We shared hopes and dreams and pushed each other to obtain the dreams we all hoped to share. We accomplished so much; yet as we gray, Kevin, above all others; has rekindled that youthful spirit that had long ago turned into cynicism and disheartened platitudes of success in football. You see – Kevin has reestablished our friendships. Ultimately; that is what matters.”

Life at times can seem to be an elusive, fleeting existence. In life, your spirit may be lost or broken and your will to move forward bridled and encumbered. You can or will become broken or feel as if your soul becomes misplaced in the mind-numbing, continual flurry of recurring and troubling issues that we’ll inevitably have to face. There’s defined hope and true inspiration in what positives can do in your life. Embrace them! Let them fill you up! Be brave and fearless when you chase your inspired dream! My dear old friend and collegiate training partner from my “DAWG DAZE SHADOWS” wrote these inspiring words on this picture he sent to me when I began this journey to pen my thoughts as my earnest measure of giving back.
“Guns, NEVER give up your dream!”
I’ll forever remember, that one, cool fall day as a new freshman in high school, when we were called from our classrooms to meet for a rally on the north side of the principal’s office. No one knew why this sudden, impromptu assembly was called. When the student body had been amassed for that general assembly, we were all surprised with what we saw.
Standing behind a make-shift podium, were two of our schoolmates — Debbie Meyer and Sue Pedersen — tentatively smiling and sporting their newly acquired Olympic Gold and Silver Medals from the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. That day as I stood there watching — as a young 14-year old dream chaser — inspiration hit my heart; with a fiery passion and told me that some day, I would come to realize my dream of playing football in the NFL. Inspiration that spurs motivation, can come in many different forms. That one day, it came from two new schoolmates. Thanks Debbie and Sue for inspiring this former young Rio Americano Raider on that day!
I recently came across some inspirational words from Billy Mills, the 1964 – 10K Meter – Olympic Gold Medalist. They’re what his father had spoken to him as a child. These words grabbed me. I could feel their power as they stirred inside of me and touched my heart. I hope these great, imaginative and creative words of wisdom will do the same for you, as you turn the page towards the next chapter in your life. They have in mine.
“You have to look deeper, way below the anger, the hurt, the hate, the jealousy, the self-pity, way down deeper where the dreams lie, son. Find your dream. It’s the pursuit of the dream that heals you.”
Never give up! Always move forward! Give your all! Live life to the fullest by being the absolute very best you can be every day! It’s the way to your vast fortune and riches in this bountiful Universe. The “DREAM” is what gives us hope and spurs us on to greatness if we choose to embrace it.
