Littluns – And the Book of Darkness

As I’m now, well on my way with a new path in life — which is based first, as that of a writer — I’ve been blessed and granted a wonderful opportunity to oversee the promotion and marketing for this little gem of a book — one brightly sparkling diamond in the rough — that I’m deeply and passionately honored to represent for one of my dearest new legacy friends. It has captivated my attention in ways that brought me to a point of an incomparable fantasy — wherein rests; many hidden, deeply effective messages. Which for me, in very similar form had played out in such animated iconic classic stories revealed within Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs as a young child; J.R.R. Tolkien’s: The Lord of the Rings and C.S. Lewis’s live action films depicted with Disney’s — The Chronicles of Narnia — series of films.

This extremely well written literary masterpiece: Littluns—And the Book of Darkness, was written by Mark Glamack. Glamack is a long-time shadowed creative genius and Hollywood insider who first followed a path from that childhood dream at age seven, which led him to become an animator, producer, director and screen writer with the likes of entertainment industry giants: Disney and Hanna-Barbera along with many other creative mainstream luminaries. Glamack was a successfully elected six-term Governor for The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences — as well as being a patented inventor. As his career was first taking form in the beginning stages of his legacy of creative accomplishments — he was subsequently dropped in the midst of the war-torn, ravaged wasteland of Viet Nam; returning, battle-tested with his the Distinguished Service Medal and his nation’s honor and praise for achieving The Bronze Star for heroic, meritorious achievement or service, to once again chase his childhood dream.

Mark grew his craft within the frenetically manic village where “All That Glitters” resides; within the mesmerizing little universe often referred to as Tinseltown. That magnetic world of mystery, fantasy and boundless dreamscapes, which captivated Mark throughout his storied career have now come to play out in his divinely inspired work, which motivated and spoke to his heart — with that one resonating voice saying — “Write Littluns” — this first; of a hopeful trilogy series of amazing books, which begins with his first amazing book.

Where it all began, of Light and Life, there is The Book of Light. Of all that has been or will be corrupted, there is The Book of Darkness. One empowers individuals. The other has power over them. We embark on this fantasy spawned journey long ago and far away; in a time and place somewhere between reality and eternity. The enchanting land of Hollow Hills is located high atop the impenetrable Powder Mountain; a surreal landscape, sequestered away from view to the rest of the world. It is here, that Hollow Hills is protected and kept pure; hidden within the inner crater walls of Powder Mountain — the secret land of the Littluns. It’s an idyllic Walden’s Pond of sorts — maybe even Shangri-La as a Garden of Eden — which settles deep in the heart of each one of us.  A place where it is as good as it can be.  A fantastical, mystical and magical place where everyone’s dreams are the call of a wonderful freedom of joy and grace fulfilled.

In contrast, Terra Fermata — the land below inhabited by man, mutants and other creatures —  from a point in time when the sky had fallen a thousand years ago — to a time now; which is all but completely forgotten. In these modern days, for the most part, it’s a self-contained land of mountains, deserts, valleys and plains that reached far and wide to the shores and spotted islands on a deep blue sea where earths musical pause of Harmony and Peace — has become the daily ebb and flow of this hope-filled land of man; in such a confounding and conflicting place at times; that travels to the center of our own little world and soul — where in us lay innocence, malice and an irreconcilable struggle for our souls. Alternately, this light and dark that seems to live and dwell in us all, calls out to us as each promises great rewards if we will but ally ourselves with one or the other. But without a guide, we cannot reach, nor understand or choose between them. To one we fear what’s written in the pages of The Book of Darkness; and if unopposed, it seeks its victim and is mercilessly victorious.

To those others who wander and roam below; inside the vast boundaries of the land of Terra Fermata, hope desires to reign supreme within this wonderfully rich and bountiful place, with such great rewards of our heart and mind’s wildest dreams. They will play out and come to life and live free within the other’s pages — anxiously turned — in The Book of Light. Within this book appears an alluring, magical word that becomes the necessary key to unlock the tumblers of our life’s self-imposed restraint to grant passage to that which constrains all that is good. That word? Eucatastrophe. The unrelenting strength of this word must be found or its powerful message will be lost forever to the one that needs it most — for What Matters Most! When a spiritual guide to the heart steps forward, then the person he summons can follow the navigator to the realm of unfaltering, unrelenting and rejuvenating childlike innocence, wonderment and hope.

In this youthful and unpredictable page turner — with an ending so surprising as to be utterly true to life in the world as we know it — lives, frolics and scampers those endearing little dwarf-like imaginary beings known as Littluns (litt-l-uns). The outside world below holds little interest to Littluns. It’s not that they don’t know about such things and what goes on out there; they know very well about the chaos and discord and the importance of remaining removed from such things. However, once every year or two, around the third and sixth full Moons, the Littleton Town Council selects five of its citizens to journey down Powder Mountain into the outside world. It’s a scavenger hunt. This is one of those days…

Littluns is truly a story for all ages depicting everyone’s journey through life facing choices for the light or darkness. Beginning with a simple scavenger hunt, the reader is taken on a fast, twisting and turning, roller coaster ride of your life into the unknown. Littluns creates a path into the human experience that guides us to the very core of our souls—providing a key to peace and endurance as we await the renewal of the world at the end of our age. Littluns is a very literate story with well written and defined good and evil characters. Those who especially enjoy medieval literature and allegorical stories will enjoy this book. Glamack’s intricate and noticeably inspired creative work depicted within the pages of his novel, evokes his masterful screenwriting skills that come to play with such vivid imagery and makes his audience feel like they’ve been deep inside a high production animated movie. It’s a brilliant book which takes you on a ride through a myriad of magical settings and entertains its reader from beginning to end. Littluns and its relative form, is an adventure about friendship, loyalty, courage, and determination of those realized within our life’s own band of brothers. It’s a great book for students and adults alike—truly a story for all ages.

Mark Glamack’s labor of love has garnered several literary awards with the most noticeable and prestigious: The Dove Award for readers twelve and above and two Mom’s Choice “Gold” Awards for “fiction” and “fantasy, myths and legends” among others. He possesses the philosophical belief that — “We need to positively motivate, educate, enlighten, and inspire through entertaining content with a more positive celebration of the human spirit.” Taking a stroll with Mark and the pages he’s offered up, has become that great walk to remember for me and has enabled my ability to pen my own thoughts to print to feed ones spirit, which in turn nurtures ones soul and lends inspiration to one’s mind and motivating any person to take those individual —one at a time — necessary positive steps to compete in the game of life. What a great read! Mark Glamack has raised the bar with his heart-driven and enlightened literary work which I’m honored to relate as one that truly encompasses that part of our spirit and soul for What Matters Most!
