When I recently attended the 8th Annual San Francisco Writer’s Conference at the Mark Hopkins Hotel this past February, I became acquainted with a legend among those elite, heralded and famed crafters of thrill novels — David Morrell. I sat in a session David was presenting that related to the documentary which depicted the story behind his very first literary work — FIRST BLOOD. His initial literary offering was the innovation that brought Sylvester Stallone to the silver screen as RAMBO. I became enthralled with the intricacy by which he weaved his story telling and the semantical construction by which his characters grew their presence. To me, it was captivating and inspiring as my mind spun into its own comparable dreamscape of expressive, creative imagery. David is an inspiration and mentor for my growing craft. What a grand role model to emulate!
David is a #1 New York Times bestselling and award winning author. One of those novels of notable acclaim, which is listed within his respected repertoire of 30 literary accomplishments was The Brotherhood of the Rose. This wordsmith’s triumph became a TV mini-series which starred Robert Mitchum, who led the acting credits. Burnt Sienna was yet one of many other thrillers which had been targeted for a James Bond portrayal for Pierce Brosnan before he gave way to another James Bond character actor — Timothy Dalton. David’s most recent thriller is The Shimmer. This story depicts a Santa Fe police officer who must solve the mystery of the Rostov Lights, an unexplained phenomenon in a remote Texas town in order to save his missing wife. David has a Ph.D. in American Literature from Penn State and was formerly a professor in the English department of the University of Iowa.

David is presently at work completing his next novel — when he’s not at the controls of his single engine, fix-winged dream forger and thinking he’s “Sky King” as he flys above the New Mexico dessert. He won’t tell me what his newest labor of love is about or even titled because he probably knows I’d write about it! He’s intuitive as well from following his Light! Hey, isn’t it all about telling the “truth?” I feel honored to have become acquainted and befriended by such a battle-tested champion of the literary trenches. David is one of honorable, distinguished human character that grew his writer’s calluses within the monolithic concrete hardscape and steel castle’s that house — The Six Sisters — among New York City’s concrete jungle. One most noticeably made famous by its mountainous skyscrapers that soar above the asphalt and concrete byways that we are forever curious and enticed to explore — The Big Apple.
